Ranked first among social media platforms Instagram is working on a new feature. The application, which provides convenience to users with the updates it brings periodically, tests the feature of hiding likes. With the feature of hiding Instagram likes, users will be able to hide the number of likes in their posts. This update, which has been planned for a long time, is currently in a global testing phase.
Facebook officially announced the new feature
One Facebook spokesperson announced that as of today, Instagram is launching a small global test where users can choose to hide their likes in their posts or other people’s posts. The spokesperson said in a statement: “In 2019, we started hiding their like numbers to see if a group of people were releasing the pressure when posting on Instagram. “Some people found it helpful, but others wanted to see the number of likes that are still popular.”
Facebook is also exploring a similar experience that will be available in the coming weeks in response to users demanding greater control over how they interact with content on the platform. The company previously applied this test for a period of time on shipments across Australia.
Instagram tried hiding likes on small groups
Last month, Instagram received huge reactions after accidentally hiding the likes of many users. Some saw this as an important step in the mental health of the users. Some users interpreted this as a disaster for content creators who partner with brands.
Users in the Instagram test will still be able to privately see their own like number. The test includes a small percentage of global users. However, the company did not specify which users this included.
